      Minnie is in a very old photo of the "Amity School" children which Gary & Carol Petranek received from Gary's mother, Mabel Wirth. There is no date on the photo. There are children from the House and Birk families in the photo.

      Obituary:
      Mabel Mercer
      Minnie Mabel Mercer was born May 18, 1890 at Allendale, Missouri. Her parents were William and Mary Ellen Birk.

      She lived in Allendale until she was married to Walter Mercer of Grant City, Jan. 12th, 1900. (error should be Jan 12, 1910)

      They purchased a farm five miles southwest of Grant City where they resided until they moved to Rock Port, Missouri in 1929 when Mr. Mercer bought a Chevrolet car agency. They lived in Rock Port for many years where they were faithful members of the Methodist Church.

      Mrs. Mercer was widowed when her husband passed away in Feb. 1966.

      To the union of Minnie and Walter were born four children: Opal Dale, born July 1912, deceased 1913; Mabel Oleta, born Feb. 2, 1915; Maxon Herbert, born Nov. 11, 1918, deceased June 1979; Reba Rose, born Apr. 15, 1926, deceased Feb. 1956.

      Mrs. Mercer had been ill for many years. She passed away at a hospital in St. Joseph Aug. 19, 1982 at the age of 92 years.

      Surviving are her daughter, Mabel, married to Dr. Willis W. Wirth. They live in Silver Spring Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., also three grandchildren.

      Graveside services were held at the Grant City Cemetery on Sunday, Aug. 22, at 5 3:30 conducted by the Rev. Steve Williams. Services were arranged by Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home.

      Minnie Mercer
      Grant City, Mo. -- Minnie Mabel Mercer, 91, died Aug. 18 at a St. Joseph hospital. Mrs. Mercer lived on a farm in Grant City prior to moving in 1927 to Rock Port, Mo., where she and her late husband, Walter Mercer, had owned a car agency until their retirement. Mr. Mercer died 17 years ago.

      Mrs. Mercer was a member of the Rock Port Methodist Church and a former member of the Grant City Methodist Church.

      Survivors include one daughter, Mabel O. Wirth, Silver Springs, Md., and three grandchildren.

      Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Grant City Cemetery, under the direction of the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral home.
