Obituary, Cedar Rapids Gazette, Dec. 27, 2000:
Zoe Elizabeth Burge Zemlicka, 83, of Willow Gardens Care Center, 455 31st Street, Marion, formerly of 135 25th Street Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Marion, from complications of a lengthy illness (she had contracted pneumonia two weeks previously). Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, by the Rev. William G. Jamison. There will be no viewing. Zoe, the daughter of John and Minnie Burge, was born Sept. 10, 1917, at Kenwood Park, Iowa. She attended Coe College and Iowa State College, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority, as well as Cedar Rapids Business College. She was employed by Iowa Electric in Cedar Rapids and then by Matson Lines, in San Francisco, before returning to Cedar Rapids, where she worked at both Link-Belt and Collins Radio, primarily in personnel and information systems. On July 1, 1949, Zoe was married to George Louis Zemlicka and their entire married life was spent in Cedar Rapids. Less than two weeks before George's death in July of 1999, Mr. and Mrs. Zemlicka celebrated their Golden Anniversary. In 1960, at the age of 43, Zoe contracted multiple ssclerosis, and she battled this affliction courageously for more than 40 years. In spite of the pain of this disease, she will be remembered as a person who rarely complained, who never forgot her friends or family, and who always found a smile and a kind word for everyone. Surviving are two nephews, John Burge, of Aurora, Ohio; and William Burge, of Ballwin, Missouri; and two nieces, Pat Dietz, of Fort Dodge, Ioiwa and Kathleen Dietz Thompson, of Sterling, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and by her sister, Wilda Burge Dietz, of Maquoketa, and her brother, Guy Lewis Burge, of Charles City and Fort Dodge.
