    • Information from Sauk Co. probate records pg. 13. Also they had his name spelled as Birck instead of Birk.
    Notes
    • Name & dates and following information from Marilynn Stone Howard, July 2005:

Jacob's middle name could have been spelled "Heinnick." Jacob and his two sons, Peter and WIlliam, came to America in 1866 at the end of the Civil War. Jacob located in the Wisconsin area in a small town called Kilbournville which is apparently now called Wisconsin Dells in Columbia COunty.

In 1983 Clifford Morris wrote the following in his family history.
"Jacob was born in Kolschausen, Germany, located about 40 miles north of Frankfort. He and his wife had two children, Peter and Bill (born in 1851); his wife died in 1860. Jacob sold his land, house and farm and moved to America with his two sons in the spring of 1866. After a short stay in Pittsburgh, they went to Kilbourne City (now Wisconsin Dells), rented a team of horses and moved their belongings to a site in Freedom township. His son, Peter, found work in nearby Ablemans (now Rock Springs). Jacob bought 40 acres of land on November 17, 1866 and 2-1/2 acres more on December 5, 1866 and probably other land. March 3, 1983: Aileen and I visited the area in Wisconsin where Jacob Birk settled. We were in the towns of Wisconsin Dells, N. Freedom and Rock Springs. When Jacob settled in the area, Ableman (Rock Springs) had a wagon and blacksmith shop, one store about 16 feet by 16 feet, and four or five houses. Today, it is a town of 432 people, but at the turn of the century we understand it had several thousand people. The area has a lot of iron ore which was mined in the early 1900's. The 40 acres which Jacob bought on 11-17-1866 from William Simon, who we think was a nephew, had the following legal decription: in the northwest 1/4 of the south-west 1/4 of Section 5 in township 11 north of range 5. This land is located southeast of the intersection of Route D and Camp Road. In the northwest corner of the land we found a very old rock foundation which we assumed is where his home stood. This area is very hilly and possibly he settled there because of that. The town of Kolschausen in Germany, where Jacob came from, was built on a hill. About 2 miles from this land we found an old church and cemetery which had grave markers which had dates in the period that Jacob settled in the area. We were not able to find a marker with Jacob's name on it, but did find a marker which read Jacob A. Simon, son of William P. Simon, d 10-17-1861, 1 year 2 months and 11 days. There were other markers for Simons' but none for William. We were unable to find anyone in the area who could help us, nor could we locate anyone who had access to the Church. We also found several other semeteries in the area, but couldn't find Jacob Birk's grave."
The area mentioned in this quote covers two counties: Columbia (Wisconsin Dells) and Sauk (N. Freedom and Rock Springs.).

On 22 Nov 1846 when Jacob Heinrick was 27, he first married Anna Margarethe DIEHL, daughter of Johannes Diehl and Magdalene Geb Feller. Born in 1812 in Ehringhausen, Germany. Anna Margarethe died in Germany in 1860; she was 48. Anna or Anne and her husband were Evangelistic.

On April 24, 1867 when Jacob Heinrick was 47, he second married Mary Bierlein, daughter of George Egeres and Margaretha Neirer, in Freedom Sauk County, Wisconsin. Marriage certificate (possession known by Marilynn Stone Howard). Born on Dec 31, 1822 in Bavaria, Germany.

In 1983 Clifford Morris wrote the following in his family history:
On April 24, 1867, Jacob married Mary Bierlein. The marriage certificate stated the Preacher of the Gospel Christopher Lahly solemnized the wedding. Mary was born in Bavaria, Europe on December 31, 1822. Her parents were George Egeres and Margaretha Neirer. The 1870 census indicated that a George Akely, 80 years old and Samuel Bierlein, aged 10, lived with Jacob and Mary.

The text at the bottom of the attached picture indicates that Maria (or Margaretta) is the mother of Samuel, Elizabeth, John and Conrad. I suppose the other picture sent to me by Chris Bierlein that indicates it is Samuel, Elizabeth and John are 3 of these kids.
